Designing a restaurant in Barcelona does not mean copying a formula from Madrid and changing the name of the neighborhood. The city works with other rhythms: narrower premises, buildings with more constraints, a strong weight of tourism in certain areas, neighbors more sensitive to noise and a very different relationship between dining room, bar, terrace and kitchen.

  • Sarrià and Zona Alta: superior ticket, less tolerance to errors in finishing, illumination and service.

Extraction, climate, electrical power, accessibility, soundproofing and the actual condition of the room may outweigh the choice of chairs.

Licenses, ventilation and neighbors

Before falling in love with a premises, it is necessary to check the permitted activity, smoke vent, opening hours, capacity, bathrooms, accessibility, fire protection and possible limitations of the property. In Barcelona, the neighbor is not a footnote. It is part of the project if there is noise, odors, loading and unloading or terrace.

The terrace does not fix a bad interior

A terrace can greatly improve turnover, but it should not become an excuse to neglect the dining room. If the interior does not have rhythm, comfort, temperature, light and a clear circulation, the restaurant will depend too much on the weather, the permit and the season.

  • A kitchen sized for the type of menu, not for the photo.

  • Enough acoustics to make the customer want to stay.
